Compliance & Responsible Use

PublicLeads provides publicly-sourced B2B business contact information. Used the right way, it’s well-suited to compliant business-to-business outreach. This page summarizes the key requirements under CAN-SPAM (US) and CASL (Canada) so you can run clean campaigns.

The data, and how it fits B2B outreach

PublicLeads records are drawn from publicly-listed business contact information. Under CASL (Canada), you may rely on implied consent to email a business address that has been conspicuously published — on a company website, directory, or similar — where that listing carries no statement declining unsolicited messages and your message is relevant to the recipient’s role, functions, or duties (CASL s. 10(9)(b)). Under CAN-SPAM (US), there is no opt-in requirement for commercial email, including business-to-business — you may send provided you meet the requirements below.

Every message must

  • clearly identify you and your business, with accurate header (from/reply-to) information;
  • use a truthful, non-deceptive subject line;
  • include a valid physical mailing address (a street address, USPS PO box, or registered mailbox); and
  • include a clear, working unsubscribe mechanism that’s easy to find and use.

Honor opt-outs within 10 business days

Both CAN-SPAM and CASL require opt-out requests to be honored within 10 business days. Process unsubscribes promptly, and keep a suppression list so opted-out contacts are never re-added in future campaigns.

Keep your outreach relevant and honest

Contact recipients in their business capacity, about something genuinely relevant to their role. Send business-to-business messages only — no deception, no harassment, and no unlawful use.

You are the sender of record

Because you send the messages, you are responsible for meeting these requirements in your and the recipient’s jurisdiction. Under CASL, the sender also bears the onus of demonstrating the basis for consent — so when you rely on conspicuous publication, keep a record of where each contact was publicly listed.

Requesting removal

A listed business can ask to be removed at any time via Remove My Business. We process removal requests within a reasonable time.
